## Executive Summary
Jorge Polanco's disappointing first season with the Mets ends prematurely as he undergoes season-ending ankle surgery.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent sports reporting documents a significant roster development for the New York Mets regarding infielder Jorge Polanco, who is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery following a placement on the injured list due to recurring left ankle bursitis. According to coverage from Yahoo Sports, ESPN, SNY, The New York Times, and MLB Trade Rumors, this medical intervention brings an early conclusion to Polanco's campaign after he logged just thirty-seven games played during his inaugural year with the organization. The extensive media attention highlights both the immediate impact on the active roster and the broader implications for the franchise as the season winds down. Outlets such as Yahoo Sports framed the situation around the loss of a designated replacement for Pete Alonso, while The New York Times characterized the tenure thus far as a disappointing first season defined by limited availability.

Meanwhile, SNY and ESPN focused on the specific medical diagnosis of recurring left ankle bursitis that ultimately forced the infielder to the sidelines and necessitated the surgical procedure. Coverage does not yet specify the exact date for the operation, nor does it detail the anticipated recovery timeline beyond noting that the procedure brings a definitive end to his participation for the remainder of the year. The context provided across these reports establishes that the team had been relying on Polanco in an infield capacity following earlier roster shifts involving Pete Alonso. With the campaign nearing its conclusion, the timing of the surgery cuts short any potential on-field recovery before the end of the schedule.

This sudden absence forces the organization to immediately pivot its attention toward alternative roster evaluations. Looking ahead, coverage from The New York Times indicates that the Mets will evaluate their infield options ahead of the upcoming 2027 season to address the gaps left by this year's personnel challenges. Reporters across multiple platforms will likely monitor updates regarding the success of the surgery and any subsequent announcements concerning winter roster reconstruction or recovery milestones, though current reports contain no further details on these future steps.
