## Executive Summary
NASA and Katalyst Space have called off their commercial rescue mission for the aging Swift space telescope.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent reporting across multiple news organizations outlines the end of efforts to save NASA's aging Swift space telescope from returning to Earth. According to coverage from SpaceNews, Axios, AP News, official releases from NASA, The New York Times, CNN, and NBC News, plans for a commercial reboost mission have been abandoned. The rescue attempt, which aimed to prevent the observatory from falling, has been officially called off. Outlets emphasize that the mission developed with Katalyst Space is no longer moving forward, leaving the observatory without a confirmed orbital rescue plan. Coverage from these diverse outlets heavily details the operational shift regarding the falling observatory.

SpaceNews and the official NASA updates specifically highlight the partnership involving Katalyst Space and the commercial nature of the attempted boost mission. Axios, AP News, The New York Times, CNN, and NBC News uniformly frame the announcement as a failed or aborted effort to rescue the dying space telescope, emphasizing that the observatory cannot be prevented from ultimately descending to Earth under the current trajectory. Background context provided across the articles notes the advanced age and the sinking or falling orbit of the Swift observatory. While the coverage does not yet specify the exact timeline or precise geographic coordinates of the eventual atmospheric reentry, it establishes that the spacecraft is aging and was the subject of a targeted commercial rescue initiative that ultimately did not succeed. The reports focus primarily on the termination of the reboost plan rather than the broader historical achievements of the telescope itself.

Looking forward, readers must monitor future updates from NASA and participating entities regarding the final disposition of the falling space observatory. As coverage does not yet specify the next steps for tracking the descent or managing the space debris, updates from the space agency will dictate what follows next. Observers will watch for official agency announcements detailing the expected timeframe of the observatory's entry into the atmosphere.
