## Executive Summary
The 2026 TCS New York City Marathon unveils a stacked professional field of defending champions, global medalists and record‑holding athletes.

## Intelligence Brief
The New York Road Runners (NYRR) released the official professional athlete roster for the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon. The list features returning champions in the men's, women's and wheelchair divisions, alongside global medalists and national record holders. Notable names include Conner Mantz and Sifan Hassan, both described as making comebacks, and the two fastest Americans in marathon history who will also line up for the race. Coverage of the field announcement appears across several outlets. ABC7 New York reported NYRR’s statement about the returning champions across all divisions.

The New York Times highlighted the comeback stories of Mantz and Hassan. Marathon Handbook focused on the participation of the two fastest American marathoners. Athletics Weekly detailed Dever’s championship‑style ambitions and Almgren’s addition to an already stacked field. The NYRR’s own release echoed these details. The 2026 edition arrives at a moment when the marathon’s elite competition is intensifying.

Defending champions returning signals continuity, while the presence of global medalists and national record holders raises the performance ceiling. The inclusion of the two fastest Americans underscores a historic benchmark for U.S. distance running. Dever’s pursuit of a championship‑style test and Almgren’s added firepower suggest a tactical depth rarely seen in a city marathon. Observers will watch the race for how the comeback athletes manage the New York course’s demanding bridges and turns, and whether the fastest Americans can set new personal or national marks. The wheelchair division will also attract attention as returning champions defend titles.
