> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-08-24 20:07 UTC · Category: Entertainment

## Executive Summary
A British tabloid has sparked controversy after mistakenly identifying a random Detroit woman as reclusive former drummer Meg White.

## Intelligence Brief
A British tabloid publication has reportedly committed a significant error in an attempt to uncover the private life of Meg White. However, the coverage indicates that the publication did not actually find the musician. Instead, the tabloid mistakenly targeted and stalked a random woman residing in Detroit, presenting her as the former rock star in their reporting.

VICE emphasizes the nature of the mistake, noting that the tabloid's effort to reveal the private existence of a public figure resulted in the harassment of a private citizen. The reporting focuses on the disconnect between the tabloid's claims of an 'exposure' and the reality that the subject of their surveillance was a stranger. This background explains why a British publication would invest resources into tracking her movements.

The incident underscores the risks associated with tabloid surveillance and the potential for innocent civilians to be caught in the crosshairs of celebrity reporting. Future developments will depend on whether the British tabloid issues a formal correction or apology to the woman from Detroit who was misidentified. Based on the facts provided by VICE, the primary point of interest is the fallout from the tabloid's failure to verify the identity of the woman they stalked.
