## Executive Summary
A South Carolina river turned a triathlon coach’s training swim into a life‑or‑death showdown with an alligator, sparking nationwide coverage.

## Intelligence Brief
The coach managed to fight off the reptile and reach safety, according to reports from both ABC7 New York and Fox News. The incident occurred during a routine open‑water session that is a standard component of triathlon preparation. ABC7 New York published a first‑hand account in which the coach described the moment the alligator lunged and the actions taken to repel it. Fox News framed the episode with a lighter tone, noting that the triathlete “channeled his inner ‘Three Stooges’” to escape the harrowing encounter.

Both outlets highlighted the suddenness of the attack and the coach’s quick response, and the report notes the coach’s description of the struggle and his assessment of the animal’s behavior. Alligators are native to many South Carolina waterways, and their presence is a known factor for residents and outdoor enthusiasts. Open‑water swims, a regular element of triathlon training, often take athletes into habitats where large reptiles may be encountered. The incident underscores the intersection of sport and local wildlife, prompting discussion of safety protocols for athletes training in natural bodies of water.

Observers will watch for updates from authorities regarding possible relocation or public advisories, as well as any statements from the coach’s training program about adjustments to future swim routes. Continued reporting is expected as the story develops.
