> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-08-25 16:07 UTC · Category: Sports

## Executive Summary
The PGA Tour will overhaul its season-ending Tour Championship starting in 2028, introducing a two-week format and match play elements.

## Intelligence Brief
Starting in 2028, the PGA Tour will implement a new season-ending structure for the Tour Championship. This revamped format will introduce match play to determine the overall champion of the PGA Tour. The changes represent a significant shift in how the tour concludes its season and decides its top player. Coverage from the Sports Business Journal emphasizes that the revamp includes more than just a change in gameplay mechanics.

The reporting highlights that the Tour Championship will feature new locales as part of the transition to this extended format. While Brian Rolapp addressed the fans directly via a letter to explain the new structure, the Sports Business Journal focused on the business and operational shifts associated with the match play integration and the movement to different venues. This structural change matters because it alters the traditional conclusion of the PGA Tour season. The involvement of CEO Brian Rolapp in communicating these changes directly to the fan base suggests a strategic effort to manage the transition to a more complex, multi-stage finale designed to decide the tour's champion in a different competitive environment.

Observers will be watching for further details regarding the specific new locales mentioned in the Sports Business Journal report. Future updates will likely detail the qualification process for this expanded championship and how the new venues will be selected to host the revamped event.
