> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-08-27 17:07 UTC · Category: Entertainment

## Executive Summary
A massive public petition and proposed legislation seek to rename Nashville International Airport as Dolly Parton International Airport following the singer's death.

## Intelligence Brief
Following the death of entertainer Dolly Parton, a movement has emerged to rename the Nashville International Airport, currently known as BNA, to Dolly Parton International Airport. This push is being driven by a petition that has surged in popularity, with TODAY.com reporting that more than 130,000 people have signed the document. The movement has manifested in physical demonstrations, including a plane flying over Nashville to advocate for the change. In a symbolic gesture of honor, WZTV reports that the Nashville International Airport has lit up in pink to commemorate the entertainer. Coverage of the situation is widespread across local and national outlets. WZTV notes that the creators of the petition have been overwhelmed by the response.

Rolling Stone reports that Tennessee is planning the renaming, while WKRN News 2 highlights that a Tennessee lawmaker has vowed to file a bill to officially change the airport's name. The New York Times reports that while fans are overwhelmingly in favor of the change, the actual rules governing such a renaming process are described as tricky. Other outlets, including Yahoo and WSMV, have focused on the introduction of the proposed name in the wake of Parton's passing. Contextual reports suggest the renaming effort is not without complexity or political tension. The Knoxville News Sentinel examines whether the Knoxville airport could also be renamed for Parton, noting that the situation there is complicated. Meanwhile, Mother Jones provides a critical political lens, noting that while the Governor of Tennessee expresses love for Parton, there is a contrast between that sentiment and the Governor's stance regarding the LGBTQ people whom Parton stood up for.

The Dallas News also connects the current renaming momentum directly to the period following the entertainer's death. Future developments depend on the legislative process in Tennessee. The primary point of observation will be the bill vowed by the Tennessee lawmaker reported by WKRN News 2. Observers are also watching how officials handle the specific rules mentioned by The New York Times regarding airport naming conventions. While the public petition continues to grow, the transition from a fan-led movement to an official government action remains the central narrative. Coverage does not yet specify a date for the proposed bill's filing or a timeline for any official decision by airport authorities.
