## Executive Summary
A doctor from Richmond has issued a public safety warning after waking up to find a bat attempting to burrow into her mouth.

## Intelligence Brief
A physician based in Richmond experienced a harrowing encounter when she woke up to discover a bat attempting to crawl into her mouth. According to reports from Click2Houston and USA Today, the woman initially believed she was still dreaming during the incident. The doctor described the animal as legitimately trying to burrow between her lips. Following the event, she reported that she was screaming repeatedly as she realized the situation was real life and worked to remove the animal from her face. Extensive coverage of the event has been provided by a wide array of news outlets, including WXII, WISN, KCCI, WTAE, WYFF, and WBAL-TV.

These sources emphasize the visceral nature of the encounter, quoting the woman's immediate reaction of screaming. Newser and Yahoo Health further detailed the specific action of the bat attempting to enter the woman's mouth, while the New York Post highlighted that the woman used her experience to share a public service announcement regarding wildlife safety. Context for this event is provided by the professional background of the woman involved. MedPage Today identifies her as a GI doctor, noting that her medical perspective informed the subsequent warning she shared. The incident serves as a catalyst for a broader PSA about the dangers of wildlife interactions.

Because bats are known carriers of various health risks, the doctor's decision to go public with the story aims to alert others to the possibility of such unexpected animal intrusions in residential settings. Moving forward, observers can look to the guidance provided in the doctor's PSA regarding wildlife safety. While the provided coverage does not specify the medical treatment she received or the current status of the bat, the narrative focus remains on the warning shared by the Richmond physician. The reports from Yahoo and USA Today indicate that the primary goal of sharing this story is to prevent similar occurrences and educate the public on how to handle unexpected wildlife encounters in the home.
