## Executive Summary
Tom Cruise confirms a Days of Thunder sequel starring Anne Hathaway is slated for a summer 2028 release.

## Intelligence Brief
According to extensive entertainment and news coverage from outlets including The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Yahoo, People.com, and ESPN, Paramount has officially green-lit a follow-up to the NASCAR-focused film Days of Thunder. Tom Cruise has confirmed he will return for the sequel, which is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2028. The coverage further establishes that actress Anne Hathaway has joined Tom Cruise as a co-star in the upcoming project. Promotional efforts for the film have already begun making public appearances, with Tom Cruise recently addressing the NASCAR garage during a drivers meeting at Daytona and paying tribute to NASCAR legend Kyle Busch. Coverage highlights distinct reactions from across the media landscape regarding the casting announcement.

Outlets such as Variety and Yahoo report that original Days of Thunder star Randy Quaid has publicly criticized the selection of Anne Hathaway, describing her as a leftist and woke choice for the sequel while calling on Tom Cruise to reunite instead with Nicole Kidman to satisfy a MAGA audience. Meanwhile, additional reporting from People.com and Yahoo notes that Anne Hathaway fans have raised specific questions about her role in the upcoming production. The broader announcements regarding the project's green-light and 2028 release date were widely covered by sports and news publications like USA Today, The Seattle Times, The Drive, RACER, and Motorsport.com. Additional business-related context emerges from recent reporting by TV News Check, TheWrap, and Dark Horizons concerning Paramount and studio leadership. David Ellison has publicly promised that the studio will produce at least thirty movies a year, a target that has generated skepticism across Hollywood.

In response, Tom Cruise has expressed confidence in the studio, stating that his Paramount family will successfully deliver on this promised output tied to a WBD merger. The confluence of high-volume theatrical output promises and legacy sequel announcements provides the immediate industry backdrop for the Days of Thunder project. Looking ahead, coverage does not yet specify plot details, additional cast members beyond Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway, or a definitive filming schedule. Future updates will likely track the response to David Ellison and Tom Cruise's thirty-movie production pledge, as well as any further promotional appearances or production milestones related to the 2028 Days of Thunder follow-up.
