## Executive Summary
Roger Waters, Annie Ernaux, and Guy Pearce lead a coalition of artists demanding the Venice Film Festival take concrete action in support of Palestine.

## Intelligence Brief
A group of artists has issued an open letter to the Venice Film Festival demanding that the organization take concrete action in support of Palestine. According to reporting from The Hollywood Reporter, high-profile signatories of this appeal include musician Roger Waters, actor Guy Pearce, and writer Annie Ernaux. The movement seeks to leverage the festival's global platform to bring attention and support to Gaza. This collective effort represents a coordinated attempt by creative professionals to influence the operational or public stances of one of the world's most prestigious cinematic events during its active season. Coverage of the petition is widespread across major entertainment and international news outlets.

Variety and Deadline both report that the effort is organized as an open letter and petition, while Yahoo notes that Roger Waters has joined over 100 artists in these demands. Haaretz provides further scale to the movement, reporting that Annie Ernaux and Roger Waters are among 200 individuals who have urged the festival to act for Palestine. The consistency across these reports emphasizes a unified demand from a significant number of industry figures for the festival to move beyond silence and toward tangible action. The context of this trend lies in the ongoing conflict involving Gaza, which has prompted various artists to use their visibility to call for humanitarian or political interventions. By targeting the Venice Film Festival, the signatories are focusing on a high-visibility cultural institution capable of exerting international influence.

The inclusion of diverse figures—ranging from the music industry with Waters to the literary world with Ernaux and the acting world with Pearce—suggests a cross-disciplinary coalition of creators who believe that cultural festivals should not remain neutral in the face of the current crisis. Observers are now monitoring the Venice Film Festival's response to the petition and the specific nature of the concrete actions being requested. While the coverage establishes that the letter has been sent and signed by hundreds of artists, it does not yet specify if the festival leadership has issued a formal statement or if specific demands, such as financial donations or programming changes, have been detailed. Future developments will likely center on whether the festival administration acknowledges the letter or if the group of 200 artists expands their campaign as the event continues.
