## Executive Summary
Farmers are destroying millions of heads of lettuce as a national illness outbreak spreads and consumer confidence drops.

## Intelligence Brief
According to coverage from FOX 5 Atlanta, a lettuce outbreak that triggered recalls has now spread into the state of Georgia. This localized expansion is happening concurrently with a surge in reported cases on a national scale, creating a volatile situation for both producers and consumers across the country. The coverage provided by FOX 5 Atlanta emphasizes the geographical spread of the contaminated produce and the resulting impact on the supply chain.

The report highlights that the outbreak is no longer confined to a few regions but has reached Georgia, contributing to a broader national trend of increasing cases. Context for this trend involves a widespread recall effort intended to remove contaminated lettuce from the marketplace. Future developments to watch include whether the surge in national cases continues to climb or begins to stabilize following the recalls.

Observers will be monitoring if more states report the spread of the outbreak beyond Georgia. Additionally, the situation will depend on whether shopper confidence returns to the lettuce market once the source of the illness is contained and the recalled products are fully removed from circulation, though coverage does not yet specify the exact cause of the contamination.
