## Executive Summary
Kirk Cousins is expected to be the Las Vegas Raiders starter following a struggling preseason performance by Fernando Mendoza.

## Intelligence Brief
The Las Vegas Raiders are finalizing their quarterback situation heading into the regular season. According to a report from CBS, Kirk Cousins is expected to be named the starter for the team. This development follows a preseason matchup between the Las Vegas Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers, during which Fernando Mendoza struggled. Mendoza finished the game with his second interception, a performance that has led to significant scrutiny regarding his readiness for a primary role on the team. Coverage from multiple outlets highlights the divide in expectations for the Raiders' quarterback room.

Silver And Black Pride reported on the specific details of Mendoza's second interception during the 49ers game, while Sharp Football Analysis explicitly stated that Mendoza's preseason statistics indicate he is not ready to start in Week 1. Yahoo Sports has expanded on this tension, reporting that a quarterback controversy could be brewing in Las Vegas. Some reactions to Mendoza's display against San Francisco have been severe, with Yahoo Sports noting calls to sit him for the entire season following what was described as an embarrassing display. Context for this shift is provided by The Viking Age, which notes that Kirk Cousins is now sealed to the fate he previously tried to avoid during his time with the Vikings. This framing suggests a cyclical nature to Cousins' professional trajectory as he moves into the starting role for the Raiders.

The current situation in Las Vegas represents a pivot away from Mendoza's potential immediate impact and a reliance on the experience of Cousins as the team prepares for the official start of the season. Observers are now watching to see if the Raiders officially announce the depth chart to resolve the brewing controversy mentioned by Yahoo Sports. While CBS reports that Cousins is the expected starter, the team must manage the fallout from Mendoza's preseason errors and the accompanying harsh reality checks. The focus remains on whether the Raiders will adhere to the expectation of starting Cousins or if the internal dynamics of the quarterback room will lead to further adjustments before the Week 1 kickoff.
