## Executive Summary
The Pittsburgh Steelers are overhauling their roster with the release of veteran defenders and the trade of running back Kaleb Johnson to the Green Bay Packers.

## Intelligence Brief
The Pittsburgh Steelers are executing significant roster changes ahead of the Sunday deadline for NFL roster cuts. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the team has released linebacker Elandon Roberts. This move is part of a larger trend of defensive departures, as TribLIVE.com reports the release of two defensive veterans, and Behind the Steel Curtain specifically identifies linebacker Malik Harrison as another player released by the organization. Simultaneously, the Steelers are involved in a trade with the Green Bay Packers involving second-year running back Kaleb Johnson. ESPN and TribLIVE.com report that the Packers have acquired Johnson in this transaction, which Yahoo Sports notes involves the Steelers trading a 2025 draft pick to a team in the NFC North. Coverage from several major sports outlets emphasizes the financial and strategic implications of these moves.

Sports Illustrated reports that the release of the veteran linebacker allows the Steelers to save $4 million in cap space. Yahoo Sports describes one of these releases as the most obvious roster cut the team has made in 2026. Meanwhile, the acquisition of Kaleb Johnson by Green Bay is a primary focus for ESPN and Sports Illustrated, the latter of which highlights the fantasy football impact of the move. The reporting across these outlets suggests a coordinated effort by Pittsburgh to manage their salary cap and restructure their backfield and linebacker corps before the league deadline. To understand the current stakes, readers should note that these moves coincide with broader league shifts. Sports Illustrated mentions that the NFL has placed Josh Jacobs on the exempt list, which adds context to the Packers' decision to acquire Kaleb Johnson.

For the Packers, the arrival of Johnson represents a new addition to their running back rotation, with some coverage focusing on five key things to know about the player as he joins Green Bay. For the Steelers, the transition involves moving on from established veterans in the defense to create flexibility, while shifting a young offensive asset to the NFC North in exchange for future draft capital. Looking ahead, observers will be monitoring the final roster submissions before the Sunday deadline. The specifics of the 2025 draft pick being sent to the NFC North team remain a point of interest based on the Yahoo Sports report. Additionally, the long-term impact of the $4 million in saved cap space on further Steelers transactions will be a key development. The integration of Kaleb Johnson into the Packers' system and the status of the exempt list for other league players will likely continue to drive sports coverage and fantasy football analysis in the coming days.
