## Executive Summary
The 2026 college football coaching carousel begins as The New York Times identifies 25 emerging candidates poised for major program openings.

## Intelligence Brief
The coverage focuses on the identification of rising talent within the coaching ranks, suggesting that these individuals are currently positioned to climb the professional ladder toward bigger jobs within the collegiate sports system. The New York Times is the sole source of this trend intelligence, emphasizing a curated list of personnel who are currently under the radar but possess the trajectory to lead major programs. The reporting highlights the strategic importance of tracking these 25 individuals, as their current performance is viewed as a precursor to future appointments at higher-profile institutions. The coverage does not specify the current teams these coaches manage or the specific schools that may be looking to hire, but it establishes a definitive group of candidates for the upcoming coaching carousel.

This trend matters now because the college football coaching carousel is a perennial cycle of movement that reshapes the competitive balance of the sport. The identification of these 25 coaches provides a roadmap for understanding how power shifts between programs based on leadership changes. In the context of collegiate athletics, moving to a bigger job typically implies a transition to a program with more resources, a larger fan base, or a higher probability of competing for national championships, making the tracking of these specific names a key priority for sports analysts. Observers will be watching to see if their on-field success translates into the actual job openings predicted by the report.

Coverage does not yet specify which specific vacancies might open or which programs are currently dissatisfied with their leadership, but the New York Times report sets the stage for these potential movements. Future updates will likely focus on which of these 25 candidates are the first to be recruited for high-profile vacancies.
