## Executive Summary
Officials have issued a rabies warning on Staten Island after a fox bit a visitor at a local park.

## Intelligence Brief
Health and environmental officials are warning the public about a fox that may be infected with rabies and is currently roaming a New York City borough. According to reports from SILive.com, the incident involved a fox biting a visitor at a park located on Staten Island. This encounter has prompted immediate action from local authorities to alert the community of the potential health risk posed by the animal, which remains at large within the area. Coverage of the incident is widespread across several New York-based media outlets. PIX11 reports that the Department of Environmental Conservation, or DEC, has issued a formal rabies warning in response to the event.

Similar reports from amNewYork and Gothamist emphasize that the bite incident has led to a broad rabies advisory for the borough. The New York Post further highlights that officials are explicitly warning the public about the fox's movement through the borough, stressing the danger of a potentially infected animal being on the loose. This situation is significant because rabies is a serious viral disease, and the presence of a potentially rabid animal in a public space like a park increases the risk of exposure for residents and visitors. The involvement of the DEC indicates that wildlife management and public health protocols are being activated to manage the threat. While the specific park is not named in the headlines, the focus remains on the fact that a human bite has already occurred, necessitating the current public health advisory.

Moving forward, the public is advised to follow the warnings issued by the DEC and other local officials. Monitoring efforts will likely continue as authorities attempt to locate the fox. Coverage does not yet specify if the victim has received treatment or if the animal has been captured. Future updates will depend on whether officials can secure the animal for testing or if further incidents of aggression are reported by the public in the Staten Island area.
