> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-08-31 12:07 UTC · Category: Business

## Executive Summary
Northwest Naturals has initiated a nationwide recall of raw pet food products due to potential salmonella and listeria contamination.

## Intelligence Brief
A nationwide recall has been issued for raw pet food products manufactured by Northwest Naturals. This action follows the discovery of potential contamination involving both salmonella and listeria. According to coverage from FOX 8 News, the scale of the recall involves nearly 2,000 lbs. of food intended for both dogs and cats. The recall is aimed at preventing the consumption of contaminated raw products that could pose health risks to pets and their owners. Multiple news outlets are tracking the developments of this safety alert.

Pet Age reports that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially announced the voluntary nature of the recall initiated by Northwest Naturals. Further reporting from Live 5 News, KGW, and WKRC emphasizes the dual risk of salmonella and listeria contamination. These outlets highlight that the affected products are distributed across the country, necessitating a wide-reaching alert to pet owners who may have purchased these specific raw food items. The context of this recall centers on the specific risks associated with raw pet food production. The involvement of the FDA underscores the regulatory oversight required when bacterial contaminants like listeria and salmonella are identified in the food supply chain.

Because the recall is voluntary, the manufacturer is working in coordination with federal authorities to remove the nearly 2,000 lbs. of affected product from the market to mitigate potential health crises involving domestic animals. Moving forward, the focus remains on the successful retrieval of the contaminated dog and cat food. Pet owners are encouraged to monitor announcements from the FDA and Northwest Naturals regarding specific product batches and return instructions. Coverage does not yet specify if any illnesses have been reported or the exact cause of the contamination. Future updates will likely detail the specific lot numbers and the timeline for the complete removal of the nearly 2,000 lbs. of product from retail shelves.
