## Executive Summary
Miley Cyrus has dropped her famous last name alongside the release of her new single 'Bass Persuades,' sparking a public reaction from her father.

## Intelligence Brief
Miley Cyrus has officially dropped her last name, a decision that coincides with a significant shift in her public image and artistic output. According to reports from Yahoo and E! News, this change comes as she debuts a dramatic new look and launches a new single titled 'Bass Persuades.' The release of this track is accompanied by a music video in which Cyrus transforms a bustling city into a personal dance floor, leading what coverage describes as a steamy dance floor revolution. The creative direction of the project is characterized as grungy, mirroring the aesthetic shift accompanying her decision to ditch her family name. Coverage from Yahoo News Canada and E! News emphasizes the reaction of her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who has stepped forward to publicly defend his daughter's choice.

Billy Ray Cyrus stated that family means more than ever now, indicating a supportive stance despite the removal of the shared surname. News further contextualizes this move by noting that Miley is not an isolated case, but rather the latest in a series of celebrity offspring who have chosen to drop their famous last names to establish separate identities. Rolling Stone has focused its coverage on the lyrical content of the new music, highlighting the declaration that the kids do not want to dance. This development matters now because it represents a convergence of personal identity shifts and professional rebranding. The timing of the name change aligns precisely with the rollout of 'Bass Persuades,' suggesting a coordinated effort to distance the artist from her previous associations while launching a new era of her career. The tension between the public nature of the Cyrus family brand and the individual desire for autonomy is central to the reporting.

By publicly defending the move, Billy Ray Cyrus addresses potential public speculation regarding family discord, framing the decision within a context of continued familial closeness. Future attention will likely focus on how the artist is credited in subsequent professional engagements and whether the dramatic new look persists. Based on the provided coverage, observers will be watching for further reactions from the Cyrus family and the performance of the 'Bass Persuades' single. The industry trend of celebrity children distancing themselves from their parents' names, as noted by E! News, remains a point of interest. It remains to be seen if this name change is a permanent legal shift or a strategic branding move tied specifically to the launch of her latest grungy musical project.
