## Executive Summary
Nintendo schedules back-to-back events on September 8 and 9, 2026, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda and provide a general company update.

## Intelligence Brief
Nintendo has officially announced two separate Direct livestream events scheduled for the second week of September 2026. The first event, specifically the Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, is taking place today, September 8, 2026. This is immediately followed by a broader Nintendo Direct event scheduled for tomorrow, September 9, 2026. These presentations are being streamed across various platforms, with Nintendo's own official channels and several gaming outlets providing access to the broadcasts. The events coincide with the franchise's milestone anniversary, which Collider notes will be officially celebrated with a new release next month. Extensive coverage from major outlets including IGN, Polygon, The Verge, and Engadget has focused on how to watch these livestreams and what content might be revealed.

IGN is hosting a live blog for the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, while Mashable and Game Informer have detailed the scheduling for both the 8th and 9th of September. There is significant emphasis on upcoming software, with Polygon reporting that Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is returning in October with a new Deluxe release. Additionally, coverage from Nintendo Life and nintendo.com confirms the specific focus of the anniversary-themed presentation. Contextual reports suggest these events carry high stakes for Nintendo's hardware and software roadmap. Siliconera mentions the possibility of Switch 2 news during these Directs, while Wccftech discusses a potential Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake that could compete with GTA 6. Beyond the gaming sphere, IMDb and The Gamer have reported that a trailer for the first live-action Legend of Zelda movie is reportedly dropping this week.

Further separate leaks cited by My Nintendo News suggest a new 3D Mario game is scheduled for a 2027 release, though this remains distinct from the confirmed Direct agendas. Observers will be watching for the official confirmation of the movie trailer and the specifics of the Deluxe release for Tears of the Kingdom. The sequence of events places the Zelda-specific anniversary content first on September 8, followed by the general Nintendo Direct on September 9. Because the coverage emphasizes a variety of potential reveals, including hardware updates and remakes, the community is monitoring the live blogs from IGN and the official announcements from Nintendo for verification of these reports.
