## Executive Summary
LSU has finalized its 2026 roster, excluding former NFL players amid a high-stakes standoff with the SEC over conference membership.

## Intelligence Brief
LSU has finalized its 2026 football roster, making the decision to leave former NFL players off the team. This move specifically includes a roster decision by Lane Kiffin regarding players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris ahead of a scheduled game against Clemson. According to reports from NBC Sports, Lane Kiffin stated that excluding these former professional players is in the best interest of LSU. This roster adjustment follows concerns raised by Clemson regarding a potential contract breach. The decision also impacts RJ Luis Jr., with CBS Sports reporting on how these roster constraints affect his chances of playing for Will Wade. Coverage of this development is widespread across major sports and news outlets.

Bleacher Report has focused heavily on the specific roster decisions concerning Wright and Harris. USA Today reports that this move may resolve a mounting eligibility saga as pressure from the SEC increases. CBS Sports describes the situation as a brief nuclear football disarmament in the midst of a standoff. Meanwhile, the conflict has expanded into the political and media spheres, with Fox News reporting that Stephen A Smith criticized the SEC for threatening to remove LSU from the conference, and ESPN noting that a U.S. senator characterized the SEC's threat to expel the university as stupid. The core of the conflict involves a fight between LSU and the Southeastern Conference leaders. According to Yahoo Sports, the SEC possesses the ability to terminate LSU's membership, a move that could reshape the landscape of college football.

Bleacher Report notes that SEC leaders intend to discuss the expulsion of the university, even as LSU backs off from rostering professional players. The tension has led to public criticism of leadership, with Paul Finebaum describing Lane Kiffin as a 51-year-old man behaving like a 16-year-old, according to reports from USA Today. Observers are now watching to see if the SEC will follow through on its threats of expulsion despite LSU's roster changes. While the university has finalized its list of players and opted not to add former NFL athletes, CBS Sports indicates that the broader battle is not yet over. The immediate focus remains on the upcoming game against Clemson and whether the resolution of the eligibility saga will satisfy conference leaders enough to prevent the termination of LSU's membership in the SEC.
