## Executive Summary
Florida health officials are issuing warnings as dengue fever spreads, with Hillsborough County identified as the epicenter of local transmission.

## Intelligence Brief
Dengue fever, a dangerous virus transmitted by mosquitoes, is currently spreading within the state of Florida. Local health officials have issued warnings regarding the rise in cases, with specific attention focused on locally acquired infections. According to reporting from WFLA, Hillsborough County has been designated as the epicenter of these locally acquired dengue cases. The spread of the virus has prompted a series of alerts intended to warn the public about the increasing presence of the disease within the region and the risks associated with mosquito exposure. Coverage of the outbreak is being led by several outlets including the New York Post and NJ.com, both of which highlight the dangerous nature of the mosquito-borne virus and the subsequent official warnings.

The Tampa Bay Times has provided more granular detail on the local impact, reporting on a woman in Tampa who is currently battling a mosquito breeding ground located next door to her residence. Additionally, the Tampa Bay Times has published practical guidance, offering five specific tips to help residents avoid contracting the fever as the virus continues to spread through the community. Context for this health trend is provided by CIDRAP, which includes the rise of dengue in Florida as part of its quick takes on current health threats, alongside unrelated reports of anthrax detection in South Dakota and a drop in foreign food inspections. The emergence of locally acquired cases, as noted by chronicleonline.com, indicates that the virus is now arriving locally, shifting the focus toward the environmental factors that allow mosquitoes to thrive. This transition to local transmission increases the stakes for residents who may not have traveled to regions where dengue is traditionally endemic.

Future developments to watch include the effectiveness of mosquito mitigation efforts in hotspots like Hillsborough County and whether the number of locally acquired cases continues to rise. As the Tampa Bay Times reports on individual struggles with neighborhood breeding grounds, the role of local code enforcement and public health interventions in eliminating these sites will be critical. Coverage does not yet specify the total number of confirmed cases, but the continued warnings from officials suggest that monitoring and preventative measures remain the primary priority for health authorities in Florida.
