## Executive Summary
Reports indicate a mid-air collision involving two Russian Su-35S fighter jets over the Kursk region on September 7, 2026.

## Intelligence Brief
The incident, described as a collision in the sky, resulted in the aircraft crashing into each other. According to multiple reports, the event took place specifically within the Kursk Oblast. The aircraft involved have been identified as Su-35S fighters, a specific model of Russian military aviation. Coverage of the crash is widespread across several outlets. The Daily Express characterizes the incident as a "horror smash" and describes the event as a "humiliation" for Russia.

Other reports from Наша Ніва, Мілітарний, ua.news, and UNITED24 Media focus on the technical details of the crash, confirming that the two Su-35S jets collided while operating over the Kursk region. To understand the context of this event, it is necessary to note the specific geography of the crash. The collision occurred in the Kursk region, an area of significant strategic interest. The Su-35S is a primary fighter aircraft used by the Russian air force, and the loss of two such units in a single mid-air accident represents a notable loss of aviation assets. The reports emphasize the nature of the collision as a direct crash between the two aircraft rather than a failure of a single jet.

Future developments to monitor include official statements regarding the casualties or the exact cause of the mid-air impact, as current coverage does not specify if pilots survived or the specific mission the jets were performing. Observers will be looking for confirmation from Russian military authorities regarding the loss of the Su-35S aircraft in the Kursk Oblast. The focus remains on the aftermath of the "horror smash" and whether further technical failures are reported in the region.
