# Shohei Ohtani Not Likely To Pitch Again In 2026

> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-09-07 05:07 UTC · Category: Sports

## Executive Summary
Shohei Ohtani returns to the Dodgers lineup against the Reds, but reports indicate he is unlikely to pitch again for the remainder of the 2026 season.

## Intelligence Brief
Shohei Ohtani has returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers active lineup for a series against the Cincinnati Reds. According to reports from MLB.com, Ohtani's return comes after he missed a total of four games. While he is back as a hitter, coverage from the Los Angeles Times and Yahoo Sports indicates that Ohtani is doubtful to pitch again during the 2026 season. Yahoo Sports further notes that Ohtani had nearly played on the preceding Sunday before his official return to the lineup on Monday. Multiple media outlets are emphasizing the distinction between Ohtani's ability to hit and his current status on the mound.

Japan Today reports that the Dodgers manager explicitly stated that Ohtani is unlikely to pitch again this season. Yahoo Sports has highlighted the severity of the situation, citing that Ohtani is currently all kinds of banged up right now. The coverage across these outlets suggests a grim turn regarding his pitching future for the current calendar year, even as he resumes his role in the batting order. This development is significant as it limits Ohtani's dual-threat capabilities for the final stretch of the year. The context of his return is framed by the competition he faces; True Blue LA and Yahoo Sports both note that Ohtani is returning to the lineup to face one of the National League's top starters.

This return occurs amidst other team news, including Mookie Betts powering the Dodgers to a victory over the Nationals and the Reds adding Ke'Bryan Hayes to their roster. Looking forward, the focus remains on Ohtani's health and his performance as a hitter in the Dodgers lineup. While the Dodgers manager has signaled that pitching is unlikely for 2026, the coverage does not specify the exact nature of the injuries that left him banged up. Observers will be monitoring how his presence in the lineup affects the team's momentum as they continue their season, while his status as a pitcher remains dormant for the foreseeable future.
