## Intelligence Brief
South Carolina State continues to demonstrate strength in the most recent Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, as reported by Opta Analyst. This ranking comes during a period of volatility for several other programs across the Football Championship Subdivision. According to reports from the University of North Dakota Athletics, the Fighting Hawks have climbed once again in the national polls, securing the No. 6 or No. 7 spot. Other movements in the rankings include Tarleton climbing and ACU sliding, a detail highlighted by reporternews.com. Additionally, MontanaSports.com reports that Idaho State has vaulted up the rankings, while the Montana State Bobcats and Montana Grizzlies have held their positions. Coverage from multiple outlets emphasizes the dominance of specific conferences and top-tier teams.

SWX Local Sports confirms that the Bobcats and Grizzlies remain the No. 1 and No. 3 programs in the newest FCS poll, respectively. The Missouri Valley Conference shows significant strength, with the Mitchell Republic reporting that the conference has placed four different teams within the top 10 of the FCS poll, while the University of South Dakota (USD) is positioned at No. 11. The Ohio Valley Conference has also provided updates on the Top 25 polls, ensuring that the shifts in standing are documented for its member institutions. Contextualizing these rankings requires looking at the diverse sources contributing to the current FCS landscape. The Stats Perform FCS Top 25 is a primary driver of these discussions, but other evaluations are occurring simultaneously. For instance, UTRGV Athletics reports that their program is receiving votes in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll.

Furthermore, independent analysis is being provided through the Press Break FCS Top 25 Ballot for Week 2 on Substack, and Sports Illustrated has published Zach McKinnell's 2026 Week 1 Ballot. These varying perspectives provide a comprehensive view of how different voters perceive the strength of the competing teams. Looking forward, observers will track whether the Montana State Bobcats and Montana Grizzlies can maintain their No. 1 and No. 3 standings. Attention will also be on whether the Fighting Hawks can continue their upward trajectory beyond their current No. 6 or No. 7 ranking. The stability of South Carolina State in the Stats Perform poll will be a key point of interest as the season progresses. Additionally, the performance of the four Missouri Valley teams currently in the top 10 will determine if the conference maintains its current grip on the highest tiers of the national rankings.
