Specifically, Shepherd has been revealed as the first woman ever cast in the iconic role of the Genie for the Broadway staging of the musical. The announcements indicate that her arrival marks a notable milestone for the production, which has run for years with male actors traditionally portraying the magical character. Media reports emphasize the groundbreaking nature of the casting decision, with outlets highlighting that Shepherd will break a longstanding gender barrier for the role.
