## Executive Summary
Google has successfully mapped a fruit fly's brain, enabling neural simulations to play video games including Doom, Minecraft, and Super Mario 64.

## Intelligence Brief
Google has completed a full map of a fruit fly's brain, a project resulting in a comprehensive connectome. This neural mapping has transitioned from a purely biological study into functional digital applications. According to reports from Gizmodo and Eurogamer.net, simulations based on this mapped brain are now being used to play a variety of video games. Specifically, the mapped brain is powering gameplay in Doom, Super Mario 64, and Beat Saber. Additionally, coverage from X.com and Polygon.com indicates that the fruit fly's brain has been transplanted into Minecraft and other custom simulations to drive in-game actions. The coverage emphasizes the intersection of neuroscience and gaming.

Eurogamer.net highlights a specific behavioral observation, noting that the more aroused the fly is, the harder it tries to shoot within the game environment. Newswise reports that the pursuit of this fly brain map has effectively rewired the field of neuroscience. While some outlets focus on the gaming aspect, others, such as Wiley Analytical Science, emphasize the biological utility of the project. Their reporting details how the complete neural map has revealed the specific mechanisms of how taste drives feeding behaviors in the insect. This development matters because it represents the completion of a connectome, which is a full map of every neural connection in a brain. The transition from mapping a biological entity to simulating it within complex digital environments like Minecraft marks a significant shift in how neural data can be applied.

Polygon.com describes this stage as reaching a 'Black Mirror' level of technology, reflecting the unusual nature of transplanting a biological brain map into a virtual game world. The project demonstrates a direct link between neural mapping and the ability to simulate complex decision-making in real-time software. Future developments will likely focus on the expansion of these simulations. Based on current reporting, the mapped brain is already being applied to multiple titles and custom simulations. Observers can expect more data on how these neural maps interact with different game mechanics and whether the findings regarding taste and feeding reported by Wiley Analytical Science can be translated into other simulated behaviors. The ongoing use of the connectome in titles like Beat Saber and Doom suggests that further testing of neural responses to virtual stimuli is underway.
