## Executive Summary
Pokémon GO introduces the Harvest Festival: Taken Over event featuring the debut of Shiny Applin and the return of Shadow Zekrom.

## Intelligence Brief
Niantic has announced a new series of events for Pokémon GO centered around the Harvest Festival. According to reporting from GoNintendo and Pokémon GO Hub, a specific segment of this celebration titled "Harvest Festival: Applin Picking" is scheduled to begin on September 29, 2026. A primary attraction of this seasonal event is the official Pokémon GO debut of Shiny Applin, marking a significant addition to the available collectible creatures within the app. The event is designed to simulate a bountiful harvest theme through these specific gameplay additions. Multiple outlets are tracking the rollout of these updates, including OpenCritic, GoNintendo, and Pokémon GO Hub.

Coverage from OpenCritic emphasizes that this represents a Generation 9 Shiny debut, though it notes the timing for this specific milestone occurs during an October 2026 event. Meanwhile, official communications from Pokémon GO highlight that the festivities are not limited to picking Applin, as a separate high-stakes component titled "Harvest Festival: Taken Over" is also part of the programming. This suggests a multifaceted event structure that blends seasonal gathering with combat-oriented challenges. Contextually, the "Taken Over" aspect of the festival introduces a specific objective for players: the rescue of Shadow Zekrom. The inclusion of a Shadow Pokémon of this caliber indicates that the Harvest Festival will involve more than just the debut of smaller species like Applin.

By combining the introduction of new Shiny variants from the ninth generation with the return of powerful Shadow legendary Pokémon, the developers are targeting both casual collectors and competitive players. This strategy ensures that the seasonal event appeals to different segments of the global player base. Looking forward, players and analysts will be monitoring the transition from the September 29th "Applin Picking" start date into the broader October events mentioned in the OpenCritic report. The primary focus remains on the availability of Shiny Applin and the specific requirements for rescuing Shadow Zekrom during the "Taken Over" portion of the festival. Further details regarding the exact duration of the Shadow Zekrom appearances or the specific mechanics of the Applin picking activity have not yet been specified in the current coverage.
