## Executive Summary
LG is facing allegations that its smart TVs can be hacked to record audio and scan local networks for third-party devices.

## Intelligence Brief
According to coverage from 9News and ABC10, these reports suggest that the hardware could be compromised to monitor private audio. Further claims brought forward by a YouTuber, as detailed by Mashable, suggest that these devices may be spying on users even when the televisions are turned off. The coverage emphasizes a significant scale of potential impact, with Tom's Hardware reporting on an online investigation that claims 216,000,000 TVs are involved in spying and recording audio. This specific figure highlights the breadth of the alleged vulnerability.

The reporting is spread across several major outlets, including tech-focused sites like Tom's Hardware and Mashable, as well as broadcast news entities such as 9News and ABC10. These sources collectively focus on the tension between the findings of independent investigators and the official response from the manufacturer regarding user privacy and device security. Contextually, this trend matters because it touches upon the growing security concerns regarding the Internet of Things (IoT) and the permeability of smart home devices. The core of the controversy is whether these televisions are performing unauthorized tracking and snooping.

LG has addressed these allegations directly; according to Tom's Hardware, LG strongly denies the claims of spying. The company has explicitly stated that the concerns regarding tracking and snooping are not true, placing the company in direct opposition to the claims made by the YouTuber and the online investigation mentioned in the reports. Future developments will likely depend on the verification of the technical claims made by the independent investigators and the YouTuber. Observers will be watching to see if further evidence is provided to support the claim that 216,000,000 devices are recording audio or if LG provides more detailed technical rebuttals to the hacking claims.
