A fatal early morning collision in Midtown Manhattan has left one passenger dead and a Tesla driver facing vehicular manslaughter charges.

## Intelligence Brief
According to reports from the New York Police Department (NYPD) and coverage from FOX 5 New York and PIX11, the collision happened during the early morning hours. The impact resulted in the death of a passenger who was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. The driver of the Tesla survived the incident but sustained critical injuries, as detailed in reports from ABC7 New York. Multiple media outlets have provided specific details regarding the legal and medical fallout of the crash. The New York Daily News reports that the driver of the Tesla has been charged with vehicular manslaughter following the event, which the outlet described as a wild crash in the Midtown area.

ABC News and PIX11 both confirmed the death toll of one person, while ABC7 New York emphasized the critical condition of the surviving driver. The reporting across these outlets indicates a rapid response by the NYPD to secure the scene and initiate criminal charges. This incident highlights the dangers of urban infrastructure interactions, specifically the prevalence of scaffolding in the Midtown Manhattan district. The event is significant due to the severity of the impact and the immediate legal escalation involving a manslaughter charge. The coverage focuses on the specific location of the crash within New York City's busiest commercial hub and the fact that the vehicle involved was a Tesla, though coverage does not yet specify the exact cause of the driver's loss of control or the state of the vehicle's automation systems.

Future developments to monitor include the medical status of the critically injured driver and the progression of the vehicular manslaughter case in the court system. Authorities will likely provide more information as the NYPD investigation continues. Based on the reports from ABC7 New York and the New York Daily News, the primary focus remains on the legal accountability of the driver and the recovery efforts following the impact with the scaffolding structure.
