> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-09-10 04:07 UTC · Category: Technology

## Executive Summary
Hideo Kojima's anticipated game Physint transitions to Xbox following an unexpected cancellation by PlayStation.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent coverage from outlets including Bloomberg, IGN, Game Informer, Gizmodo, Yahoo, Tech Xplore, Forbes, 80 Level, Men's Journal, The Verge, GamesIndustry.biz, VGChartz, and Inven Global outlines a major shift in the gaming industry involving developer Hideo Kojima and his studio, Kojima Productions. According to reporting across these platforms, PlayStation abruptly cancelled its partnership on the upcoming action espionage title known as Physint, ending its collaboration with Kojima Productions. Coverage notes that the project has now moved to Xbox, which will publish the game following the termination of the initial PlayStation agreement. Reports indicate that the transition marks a notable shift in platform alliances for the prominent creator. Specific details regarding the breakup emerged through various publications, detailing the sequence of events that led to the cancellation.

Bloomberg reported that PlayStation dropped the Physint project due to budget concerns and missed deadlines. Additional analysis from IGN suggests that Sony may have been spooked by sales figures related to Death Stranding 2, contributing to the decision to step away from the collaboration. Gizmodo and Forbes characterized the move as a significant loss of gamer goodwill and a major disaster for Sony, while TweakTown and GamesIndustry.biz cited statements from Kojima indicating that PlayStation abruptly cancelled the project months prior and that Kojima Productions received unexpected notice of the termination. The context surrounding this trend involves long-standing relationships within the gaming sector, particularly Kojima's historical association with major platform holders and his status as the creator of the Metal Gear series, a connection highlighted by Tech Xplore and Yahoo Tech. The Alinea Insight newsletter also noted related industry dynamics, mentioning a Sony divorce from Kojima alongside unrelated fan developments regarding Nintendo and Ocarina of Time.

The sudden reversal of publishing rights places Xbox in the position of rescuing and backing a high-profile exclusive that was previously anchored firmly to the PlayStation ecosystem, altering the competitive landscape for upcoming major releases. Observers and industry participants are left looking to future announcements to understand the full implications of the publishing shift. Current coverage does not yet specify a revised release window or detailed terms of the new agreement between Kojima Productions and Xbox. Fact-checkers note that while the move to Xbox is confirmed across multiple gaming and tech publications, further operational details about the development status of Physint under its new publisher remain to be disclosed in subsequent reporting.
