## Executive Summary
Ukrainian sea drones have targeted the Russian port of Sochi, causing fires and casualties in the Black Sea resort city.

## Intelligence Brief
Ukrainian unmanned surface vessels have targeted the waterfront and port area of Sochi, a Russian resort city located on the Black Sea. According to reports from The Kyiv Independent and UA.NEWS, the strikes resulted in fiery explosions at the port. Official reports mentioned in coverage from Reuters and Xinhua indicate that at least eight people were injured during the attack. However, other reporting from Meduza suggests a higher casualty count, stating that nearly 30 people were injured in the strike on the Sochi waterfront, and this outlet has shared photos and videos from the scene to document the incident. The coverage of the event is widespread, with various international and regional outlets reporting on the strike. Reuters and Yahoo both note that Russia has reported the unmanned surface vessel attack.

UA.NEWS expands the scope of the drone activity, noting that drones also attacked Makhachkala in addition to Sochi. The physical impact of the strike has been substantiated through technical means; according to MiGFlug, satellite images have been used to confirm that drone damage occurred at both Sochi and Millerovo. This incident represents a significant escalation in the use of sea drones against Russian coastal infrastructure. The targeting of Sochi, a high-profile resort destination, and the simultaneous or near-simultaneous attacks on locations like Makhachkala and Millerovo suggest a coordinated effort using unmanned technology. The disparity in casualty reports between official sources cited by Reuters and the reporting from Meduza highlights the conflicting information often present during active conflict zones. The use of USVs allows for strikes on strategic maritime assets and waterfronts far from the primary front lines.

Future developments will likely depend on the verification of the extent of the damage. MiGFlug's reliance on satellite imagery suggests that further remote sensing will be used to assess the impact at the port. Observers will be monitoring for further reports regarding the status of the injured and whether Russian officials provide more detailed accounts of the losses sustained at the Sochi waterfront. Coverage does not yet specify if more drones remain in the area or if additional coastal cities are currently under threat of similar unmanned vessel attacks.
