## Executive Summary
Nerial, the studio behind the innovative titles Reigns and Card Shark, is closing its doors after 13 years of operation.

## Intelligence Brief
The game development studio Nerial, known for creating the titles Reigns and Card Shark, is shutting down its operations. According to reports from Rock Paper Shotgun, Mobilegamer.biz, VGChartz, Shacknews, and Kotaku, this closure marks the end of a 13-year run for the company. As part of the wind-down process, the studio is laying off its staff. While the organizational structure of the company is dissolving, the founders are not exiting the industry entirely. Instead, they have indicated that they are returning to their roots to work as independent developers once again. Coverage from multiple outlets emphasizes the nature of this transition.

Kotaku highlights a statement from the leads suggesting that there are still things that they can say through their work, while Shacknews describes the move as the developer 'going on hibernation.' Rock Paper Shotgun explicitly links the closure to the founders' desire to go back to their roots, emphasizing that the operational shutdown involves the termination of current staff employment. The reporting across these outlets is consistent in identifying Nerial as the developer of both the Reigns and Card Shark franchises. To understand the significance of this event, it is necessary to recognize Nerial's position in the market over the last 13 years. The studio gained recognition for its distinct approach to game design, specifically with the success of Reigns and Card Shark. The closure of a studio with over a decade of history represents a significant shift for the creators of these specific intellectual properties. By moving back to an independent model, the founders are shifting away from the larger studio structure they had maintained since their inception.

Future developments will depend on the independent activities of the founders. Since the coverage establishes that the founders intend to continue creating and stating things through their projects, observers will be looking for new independent announcements. While the studio Nerial is closing and staff are being laid off, the founders' shift back to an independent status suggests that new projects may emerge outside of the former corporate entity. There is currently no information regarding the future status of the existing Reigns and Card Shark titles following the closure.
