## Executive Summary
Square Enix has significantly expanded the free trial for the 24-year-old MMORPG Final Fantasy XI, removing time limits and raising level caps.

## Intelligence Brief
Square Enix has implemented a major update to the access model for Final Fantasy XI, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that has been active for 24 years. According to reports from Massively OP and DualShockers, the company has officially removed the time limits previously associated with the game's free trial. Furthermore, Massively OP specifies that the free trial has been raised to level 75, allowing new and returning players to experience a much larger portion of the game's content without an initial financial commitment. This update was part of a broader September update for Final Fantasy XI Online, which Console Creatures confirms is now live and available to the public. Coverage from several gaming outlets emphasizes the generosity and accessibility of these changes. Kotaku describes the new offering as a generous free trial, noting the significant age of the title.

Polygon.com asserts that these changes make the title easier to play than ever before, positioning it as a key point of interest for fans of the Final Fantasy franchise. The collective reporting across these five sources focuses on the reduction of barriers to entry, specifically highlighting the removal of the clock on trial accounts and the substantial increase in the level cap for those not yet paying for a subscription. The context for these changes lies in the longevity of Final Fantasy XI, which Kotaku identifies as being 24 years old. As one of the earliest and most influential MMORPGs, the game has maintained a presence in the market for over two decades. By raising the trial limit to level 75 and eliminating time constraints, Square Enix is altering how a new generation of players interacts with a legacy title. This shift suggests a move toward a more open entry point for a game that has historically required a more rigid commitment from its user base to progress through its extensive world and systems.

Moving forward, players and observers will be monitoring the impact of the September update now that it is online. Based on the reports from Console Creatures and other outlets, the immediate focus is on the adoption of the new trial parameters. Future developments will likely center on whether this increased accessibility leads to a surge in the active player population for this specific Final Fantasy entry. While the coverage does not specify further planned updates, the current focus remains on the availability of the expanded free trial and the removal of the restrictive time limits that previously governed the experience.
