## Executive Summary
The Grammys will launch a Best Asian Pop Music Performance award in 2027, moving ahead despite a high‑profile BTS boycott and mixed industry reaction.

## Intelligence Brief
The Recording Academy announced that the Grammy Awards will add a Best Asian Pop Music Performance category, slated to debut in the 2027 ceremony. The decision was confirmed by the Grammys’ chief executive, who said the organization “understands this conclusion will not satisfy everyone.” The announcement comes amid a boycott announced by BTS, the globally prominent K‑pop group, which has declined to participate under the new category. Coverage of the development appears across five major outlets.

Forbes highlighted that the new category proceeds “despite BTS boycott,” while Rolling Stone reported the debut will occur “despite controversy.” Time’s feature critiques the Grammys’ approach to Asian music, questioning what the institution “gets wrong.” Billboard explored potential nominees, asking “Without BTS, who could get an Asian Pop Grammy nomination?” Variety focused on the CEO’s statement about dissatisfaction. Future reporting will track the nomination process once the eligibility period opens for 2027. Observers will watch which artists submit entries, how the academy defines “Asian pop” for voting, and whether BTS or other high‑profile acts issue further statements.

Industry analysts will also monitor fan and media reaction to gauge whether the new category reshapes the Grammys’ relationship with Asian music markets.
