> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-10-04 16:40 UTC · Category: Entertainment

## Executive Summary
Avengers: Endgame has reclaimed its title as the highest-grossing movie of all time, surpassing Avatar following a strategic theatrical rerelease.

## Intelligence Brief
Avengers: Endgame has officially returned to the number one spot on the all-time global box office chart. According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Yahoo, and Variety, the film has successfully overtaken Avatar to become the highest-grossing movie in history. This achievement was facilitated by a theatrical rerelease, which Forbes identifies as the primary driver for the film reclaiming the top title. The rerelease, referred to as Avengers Endgame Encore, has seen significant commercial success across various markets as it pushes the film back into the top position of the global rankings. Coverage of this event is widespread across major entertainment and financial outlets. The Hollywood Reporter, Yahoo, and Variety all confirm the shift in the all-time global box office chart.

Forbes highlights the specific role of the rerelease in this financial ascent. Meanwhile, IMDb focuses on the domestic performance within North America, reporting that the Encore version is positioned to become only the third film to reach the $900 million milestone. Additionally, MovieWeb has shifted focus toward the content of the rerelease, noting the presence of eight new Marvel Easter eggs included in the Encore edition of the movie. To understand the current trend, it is necessary to note that the title of highest-grossing movie has fluctuated between these two specific films. The return to the top spot for Avengers: Endgame indicates a sustained demand for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's peak event films. The addition of new content, such as the Easter eggs mentioned by MovieWeb, suggests that the Encore release was designed not just as a repeat viewing experience but as a curated event to attract returning fans and new audiences alike, thereby generating the necessary revenue to surpass Avatar once again.

Moving forward, industry observers are monitoring the specific milestones of the North American run. As IMDb reports, the film is on a trajectory to hit the $900 million mark in the North American market, a feat achieved by very few films. The global box office chart will continue to be the primary metric for success as the Encore run progresses. Future updates will likely track whether the gap between Avengers: Endgame and Avatar widens further or if other theatrical events impact the rankings of the all-time global box office chart.
