## Executive Summary
Packaging Corp. of America is permanently closing its Middletown plant, resulting in the layoff of 91 employees.

## Intelligence Brief
Packaging Corp. of America has announced the permanent closure of its packaging plant located in Middletown. The facility, which serves the Tri-State area, will cease operations entirely as part of a decision by the company to shut down the suburban location. The move marks a significant reduction in the local industrial workforce as the facility exits the regional market. Detailed coverage of the closure has been provided by a variety of regional and business news outlets. Journal-News.com and The Business Journals both specify the exact number of affected workers as 91.

The Cincinnati Enquirer and WLWT have reported on the general shutdown and the planned layoff of dozens of employees. Additionally, WKRC has focused on the impact within the Tri-State region, noting that nearly 100 people will lose their positions as a result of the plant's closure. Context provided by The Business Journals highlights that Packaging Corp. of America is a Fortune 500 firm. The scale of the company suggests that this closure is part of a larger corporate operational strategy, although the specific reasons for selecting the Middletown plant for permanent closure were not detailed in the available coverage. The presence of a Fortune 500 entity in a suburban capacity indicates the plant's previous role in a wider national supply chain for packaging materials.

Future developments to monitor involve the final timeline for the cessation of activities at the Middletown site. While the reports confirm the closure is permanent and the number of layoffs is set at 91, coverage does not yet specify the exact date the plant will stop production or the severance terms for the displaced workers. Observers will likely track how the loss of these industrial jobs impacts the local Middletown economy and the broader Tri-State packaging sector.
