According to reports from the BBC and The New York Times, the disqualification occurred after Medvedev struck a spectator with a tennis ball. The event took place during the tournament's semi-final stage, resulting in Medvedev's immediate removal from the competition. As a direct consequence of this default, Novak Djokovic has advanced to the Beijing final, as confirmed by the official ATP Tour website. Major news outlets have provided extensive coverage of the disqualification, emphasizing the nature of the incident.

ESPN reports that Medvedev smashed a ball into a fan's face, while Reuters specifically notes that the spectator was injured by the ball. The match featured two of the sport's top competitors, Medvedev and Djokovic, adding weight to the disruption caused by the default.

Moving forward, the focus shifts to the Beijing final, where Novak Djokovic will compete after his advancement via the default. Observers will likely look for further details regarding the condition of the injured spectator mentioned by Reuters.
