> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-10-05 14:20 UTC · Category: Technology

## Executive Summary
Mac users are utilizing a new open-source tool to delete Apple Intelligence data and recover storage space.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent coverage details a growing trend among computer users seeking to remove built-in artificial intelligence software from their devices. According to reporting from outlets including MacRumors, The Verge, Help Net Security, AppleInsider, Engadget, and Digital Trends, a new open-source software utility named RemoveMacAI has been released to help users turn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27. The tool specifically targets the underlying data models associated with the feature, allowing individuals to permanently delete them and reclaim storage space on their computers. Publications such as AppleInsider and The Verge emphasize that utilizing this removal process can save users up to twelve gigabytes of storage capacity.

Coverage notes that macOS 27 reportedly removed the standard off switch for Apple Intelligence, leaving users without a built-in method to disable the feature entirely through normal system preferences. In response to this operating system limitation, the newly developed open-source utility provides a workaround for those wanting to strip the artificial intelligence capabilities from their machines. Additional reporting from Engadget highlights that the discussion extends beyond desktop computers to mobile devices, examining methods to disable or restrict similar features on iPhones. The release of RemoveMacAI addresses a direct consumer demand for storage management and software control, particularly for individuals who prefer not to run artificial intelligence models locally on their hardware.

Outlets document the technical workaround as a direct response to the operating system constraints introduced in macOS 27. As coverage continues to evolve, observers are watching how the developer community and device manufacturers will respond to the adoption of third-party removal utilities. The current articles do not yet specify whether official software updates will address the missing off switch or if users will need to continue relying on open-source solutions like RemoveMacAI to manage their storage and artificial intelligence preferences going forward.
