## Executive Summary
Bulgaria reports that two commercial vessels were struck by drones in its economic zone, leaving several sailors missing in the Black Sea.

## Intelligence Brief
The Bulgarian prime minister has announced that two commercial vessels were hit by drones within the country's economic zone. According to reporting from AP News, these attacks targeted civilian shipping in the region. The strikes have led to a critical search and rescue operation for crew members who are currently missing. Euronews.com reports that the incident resulted in the sinking of a cargo ship off the coast of Bulgaria, adding a layer of urgency to the efforts to locate the sailors who disappeared following the drone strikes. Coverage of the event is being led by major international outlets, including Politico, the BBC, and AP News.

Politico and the BBC both emphasize that sailors are missing after the drones hit the merchant ships. The reports highlight a pattern of fresh attacks on vessels in the Black Sea, as noted by the BBC. The narrative across these sources focuses on the immediate humanitarian concern regarding the missing crew and the physical destruction of the cargo ship, while identifying the specific location of the strikes as being within the Bulgarian economic zone. Context for this development is provided through the response of European Union leadership. Reuters reports that EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has addressed the situation, stating that attacks on civilian shipping in the Black Sea are unacceptable.

This response indicates that the incident is being viewed not merely as a local maritime accident but as a broader security issue affecting civilian transit in a contested waterway. The involvement of the EU leadership suggests the incident has significant diplomatic and strategic implications for the region's maritime safety. Moving forward, attention is focused on the ongoing search for the missing sailors as detailed by Euronews.com and Politico. There is an expectation of further updates regarding the status of the crew and the fate of the two commercial vessels. Based on the statements provided by the Bulgarian prime minister and the reactions from the EU, future developments will likely involve the investigation into the origin of the drones and the continued security of commercial shipping lanes in the Black Sea economic zone.
