> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-10-06 16:00 UTC · Category: Technology

## Executive Summary
Two major PS4 titles, including Call of Duty and Mafia, have unexpectedly become free to claim on the PlayStation Store in Europe without a PS Plus subscription.

## Intelligence Brief
A sudden shift in pricing on the PlayStation Store has made two major titles from the PlayStation 4 era available for free. According to reporting from Metro.co.uk and Push Square, the games currently available at no cost are Call of Duty and Mafia. This event is occurring within the European market, where users can claim these titles immediately. Push Square specifically highlights that a PlayStation Plus subscription is not required to obtain these games, making them accessible to a broader range of PlayStation Network users who may not have an active paid membership. Multiple gaming and technology outlets are tracking this development as it unfolds.

Notebookcheck reports that the games went free unexpectedly, while DualShockers characterizes the available titles as two of the best games from the PS4 era. MP1st provides a broader public service announcement, noting that a bunch of PS4 and PS5 games are appearing as mysteriously free on the PlayStation Network during this October. The coverage across these five sources emphasizes the sudden nature of the price change and the fact that the titles can be claimed right now by eligible users. This trend is significant because it deviates from the standard PlayStation Plus monthly game offering, which typically requires a recurring subscription fee to access. By making major franchises like Call of Duty and Mafia available for free without the PS Plus requirement, the PlayStation Network is providing high-profile content to the general user base.

The inclusion of titles from both the PS4 and PS5 libraries, as noted by MP1st, suggests a wider scope of free content than just the two primary titles highlighted by other outlets. Observers should monitor the PlayStation Store to see how long these titles remain free, as the coverage describes the event as unexpected and mysterious. Because no official explanation for the price drop has been detailed in the provided reports, it remains unclear if this is a promotional event or a technical error. Users in Europe are encouraged to claim the titles quickly while the storefront reflects the zero-cost pricing. Future updates will likely clarify if more titles join this list or if the games return to their standard pricing models.
