## Executive Summary
Pakistan has confirmed its sixth case of polio for 2026, with the latest instance occurring in the Khyber District.

## Intelligence Brief
Pakistan has officially reported its sixth case of polio for the year 2026. According to reports from Dawn and Outbreak News Today, this latest case brings the total count for the current calendar year to six. The specific location of this newest infection is the Khyber District, as detailed by AZƏRTAC – Azərbaycan Dövlət İnformasiya Agentliyi. This development marks a significant health event within the region, as health authorities track the movement and prevalence of the virus across different districts of the country during the 2026 period. Coverage of the event is widespread across multiple news and health monitoring platforms. Dawn and Outbreak News Today have focused on the cumulative number of cases reported nationwide this year.

Simultaneously, AZƏRTAC – Azərbaycan Dövlət İnformasiya Agentliyi highlighted the geographic origin of the case in the Khyber District. Further technical reporting is available through the EMR Polio Bulletin provided by ReliefWeb, which tracks these trends within the Eastern Mediterranean Region. These outlets collectively emphasize the emergence of the sixth case as a key metric for the country's current health status. Contextual significance is provided by the Tribal News Network, which notes that the Khyber District has reported its first polio case in six-and-a-half years. This gap in infections suggests a period of relative stability in that specific area prior to the current case. The reappearance of the virus in a district that had remained polio-free for several years underscores the volatility of the disease's presence in Pakistan.

Understanding this timeline is critical for health officials who monitor how the virus re-enters areas that had previously seen no cases for over half a decade. Future developments will likely center on the continued monitoring of the Eastern Mediterranean Region as outlined in the EMR Polio Bulletin. Observers will be watching for whether additional cases emerge from the Khyber District or other regions of Pakistan. The focus remains on the total case count for 2026, which currently stands at six. Because the Tribal News Network highlighted the long period of absence of the virus in Khyber, any further reports from that specific district will be closely scrutinized by health organizations to determine the scale of the current outbreak.
