## Executive Summary
The Philadelphia Phillies face a critical management crossroads as they evaluate whether to retain Don Mattingly or pivot to a new manager.

## Intelligence Brief
The Philadelphia Phillies are currently navigating a period of organizational instability regarding their leadership. According to reporting from Yahoo Sports, the team has reached a point where they have tried nothing and are now entirely out of ideas. This situation has led to an active evaluation of the managerial position. While the team is grappling with their current direction, MLB Trade Rumors reports that the Phillies are specifically considering the possibility of keeping Don Mattingly as their manager. This internal deliberation comes as the organization attempts to find a viable path forward for the roster.

Coverage from CBS Sports emphasizes that the search for a potential replacement is already underway, providing a list of six candidates for the Phillies to consider. Among the names highlighted by CBS Sports are Don Mattingly and Albert Pujols, suggesting that the team is looking at individuals with significant professional experience. The focus of the coverage across these three outlets suggests a dichotomy between the desire for stability under the current regime and the perceived need for a complete change in leadership to resolve the team's current struggles. To understand why this matters now, the context provided by Yahoo Sports suggests a deep frustration with the team's lack of progress or successful experimentation. The mention of Albert Pujols as a candidate indicates that the Phillies are open to candidates who bring a high level of prestige and playing experience to the dugout.

The stakes involve not only the immediate performance of the team but also the long-term strategic direction of the franchise as they decide if Mattingly is the right person to lead them or if a new voice is required. Looking ahead, the primary focus will be the final decision on Don Mattingly's status. Because MLB Trade Rumors explicitly notes that the team is considering keeping him, the immediate next step is the resolution of that internal debate. Observers will be watching to see if the Phillies move toward one of the other five candidates mentioned by CBS Sports or if they commit to the current management. Coverage does not yet specify a deadline for this decision or if any formal interviews with candidates like Albert Pujols have taken place.
