## Executive Summary
The controversial 1971 film 'The Devils' returns to screens with the restoration of its censored 'Rape of Christ' scene.

## Intelligence Brief
Ken Russell's 1971 film 'The Devils' is returning to public view with a significant restoration. According to reports from the New York Daily News and The Hollywood Reporter, the specific scene known as the 'Rape of Christ,' which had previously been censored, has been restored to the film. This restoration coincides with a new 4K uncut version of the movie. The film is scheduled for screenings in New York City, and a new trailer has been released to promote the return of this uncensored edition of the work. Coverage of this return is being handled by several outlets, including The Hollywood Reporter and Yahoo, which focuses on the release of the new trailer for the 4K version.

Voice Magazine has linked the film's presence to the BFI London Film Festival 2026. Additionally, Loud And Clear Reviews has provided a dedicated film review of the work. The reporting across these platforms emphasizes the controversial nature of the restored footage and questions whether modern audiences are prepared for the imagery. To understand the significance of this event, readers must recognize that 'The Devils' has a long history of censorship, specifically regarding the 'Rape of Christ' sequence. The film, directed by Ken Russell, has remained a point of contention since its original 1971 release due to its provocative themes.

The decision to restore the censored material for the 2026 screenings suggests a shift in how the film's historical controversy is being handled by distributors and festivals in the current cinematic climate. Looking forward, the primary focus will be on the reception of the restored scenes during the New York City screenings and the BFI London Film Festival 2026. Observers will be watching for the public and critical reaction to the uncut 4K return, as highlighted by the promotional efforts seen in the new trailer. Because the New York Daily News specifically noted the restoration before the NYC screening, the immediate impact of the restored censorship will be centered on these specific high-profile events.
