## Executive Summary
Apple declares its iconic 12‑inch Retina MacBook obsolete, ending support and adding more devices to the list.

## Intelligence Brief
The company’s statement said the MacBook joins a growing list of Apple devices that have been moved to the obsolete category. Under the obsolete label the laptop will no longer receive macOS updates, security patches, or warranty repairs, effectively ending its lifecycle within Apple’s official ecosystem. Notebookcheck’s headline foregrounds the 920 g weight and the “obsolete” status of the last 12‑inch Retina MacBook. Inc.com’s article notes that two Apple gadgets are becoming obsolete and includes a step‑by‑step guide for users to check whether their devices have been left behind.

MacRumors provides a list of the products now deemed obsolete, while 9to5Mac emphasizes the “beloved” reputation of the MacBook and points out that more products share the same fate. The move aligns with Apple’s historical practice of retiring older hardware after a multi‑year support window. When a device is labeled obsolete, Apple typically ceases the release of new operating‑system versions, stops security updates, and may limit eligibility for repair under its warranty program. For owners, the status signals a need to evaluate trade‑in options, consider upgrading to newer hardware, or rely on third‑party servicing, as the official ecosystem will no longer cater to the device.

Future reporting is expected to detail the full roster of products now classified as obsolete and any accompanying trade‑in or discount programs Apple may offer. Users are advised to monitor Apple’s support pages and the outlets that first reported the change for updates on eligibility criteria and timelines. The immediate impact on resale value, security compliance and enterprise deployment will become clearer as more information is released.
