## Executive Summary
Camas High School cross-country runners walk off a race to protest a transgender teammate's participation.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent reports from outlets including the Washington Times, The Seattle Times, Fox News, KATU, and The Columbian document a protest by Washington state high country runners who walked off a cross-country race. The action occurred in response to a runner's move to the girls' team, specifically involving a transgender athlete who joined midseason. According to the coverage, members of the Camas High School girls cross-country team refused to race, choosing instead to forfeit the event in opposition to the current policy governing athletic participation. Media organizations have heavily emphasized the perspectives of parents and student athletes involved in the controversy.

Coverage highlights appearances on programs such as Fox News' The Ingraham Angle, where parents spoke out about their concerns regarding biological males competing on girls' teams. Regional sources like KATU and The Columbian focus specifically on the local dynamics at Camas High School, detailing how the midseason arrival of the transgender athlete triggered the immediate walkout and subsequent forfeiture by the team. This unfolding situation connects to broader ongoing discussions and policy debates surrounding transgender athletes in high school sports categories. While the headlines do not provide exhaustive legislative histories or district rulebooks, the coverage establishes that existing state and school district policies permit the integration that prompted the student protest.

The dispute directly reflects wider cultural and athletic friction regarding how governing bodies balance inclusion policies with competitive fairness for female athletes. Upcoming coverage will likely track institutional responses from Camas High School administrators, local school district officials, and state athletic associations. The available reports do not yet specify whether disciplinary actions will follow the team's forfeit, nor do they indicate how future meets involving the cross-country team will be handled. Observers and news outlets will monitor whether the protest prompts policy revisions or further public demonstrations from participating families and student athletes.
