# Delta’s Free Wi-Fi Rollout Is 95% Complete, But Its Edge Over United Won’t Last Long

## Executive Summary
Delta’s free in‑flight Wi‑Fi is 95 % installed, closing a Pacific gap, but United’s free service may soon erase the lead.

## Intelligence Brief
Delta Air Lines is finalising a multi‑year project to install free broadband Wi‑Fi on its fleet. The new system now provides free connectivity on a number of major routes and across the carrier’s international network. The Points Guy highlighted the closure of the “largest Wi‑Fi gap” while InsideFlyer focused on the Pacific upgrade. The Business Journals noted that the rollout across the international network was finished even as Elon Musk expressed discontent.

The New York Post reported that free Wi‑Fi is now available on some major routes, and USA Today added that the Pacific service comes with one catch. One Mile at a Time summed the progress at 95 % and warned that Delta’s temporary advantage over United may be short‑lived. Delta’s near‑complete rollout therefore narrows a competitive gap that had previously favored United. The mention of Musk’s discontent points to broader industry debate over satellite‑based internet versus airline‑owned solutions, underscoring why the timing of the rollout matters to both passengers and rivals.

Observers will watch whether Delta completes the remaining 5 % of installations in the coming weeks and how United responds to the narrowing advantage. Coverage suggests a “catch” linked to the Pacific service that could affect passenger experience, so future reports may clarify that condition. Follow‑up stories are likely to track any announcements from United and any further statements from industry stakeholders about the evolving Wi‑Fi landscape.
