JJ Watt steps into the top broadcast booth as CBS Sports names the former defensive star its permanent lead NFL analyst.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent reporting from outlets including CBS News, People.com, CBS Sports, TSN, USA Today, and Variety details a major shakeup in sports broadcasting. JJ Watt has officially been named the permanent lead NFL analyst for the 'NFL on CBS'. This appointment follows the departure of Tony Romo from the network. Coverage specifies that Watt has secured a multiyear extension and a full-time role in the top game analyst position, transitioning permanently into the network's premier broadcasting booth. The widespread coverage emphasizes the scale of the transition, focusing on Watt's new status as the network's definitive voice for its marquee games.

Outlets such as Variety and USA Today highlight the multiyear nature of the deal, while CBS Sports refers to the incoming analyst as a future Hall of Famer. TSN and People.com frame the announcement explicitly around the permanent replacement of Romo, charting the immediate progression of Watt into the high-profile broadcasting seat. This development occurs against the backdrop of significant on-air talent shifts within major sports networks. While the provided coverage does not detail the specific circumstances surrounding Romo's prior departure, it firmly establishes the vacancy that created the opportunity for Watt. The reports position this agreement as a definitive long-term commitment by CBS Sports to a high-profile former player entering the premier tier of professional football commentary.

As the sports television landscape adjusts to this high-profile roster change, observers will be tracking how the new broadcast team performs in the booth. Coverage does not yet specify the exact game assignments for Watt's debut in his permanent capacity, nor does it name his primary play-by-play broadcast partner. Future updates from the reporting outlets are expected to follow the integration of the new lead analyst into the upcoming broadcast schedule.
