> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-10-23 14:20 UTC · Category: Sports

## Executive Summary
MSG sent employees a fake email offering Knicks championship rings in what turned out to be a phishing test.

## Intelligence Brief
According to coverage from theScore, ESPN, and the New York Daily News, Madison Square Garden management sent employees a deceptive email offering championship rings. Coverage across all three participating outlets emphasizes the contrast between the administrative security exercise and the actual status of team awards. ESPN and the New York Daily News report that Knicks assistant coaches and staff members received empty ring boxes during a banner-raising night, while actual championship rings remained delayed or awaited by coaching staff.

The New York Daily News characterizes the situation under the catchphrase Catching Strays, noting the peculiar timing of the security drill alongside the delivery of empty packaging. The context provided by the coverage highlights the intersection of modern corporate security protocols and high-profile sports franchise celebrations. Phishing tests are standard operational procedure for large companies seeking to prevent credential theft and network infiltration.

Future updates from the reporting outlets will likely track how the organization manages both its internal cybersecurity training aftermath and the actual distribution of championship jewelry to the coaching staff. Coverage does not yet specify when the genuine rings will arrive or whether further security simulations of this nature are planned. Observers will continue monitoring ESPN, theScore, and the New York Daily News for any subsequent statements from Madison Square Garden leadership.
