## Executive Summary
Violent attacks targeting Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia's Oromia region have resulted in more than 60 deaths and multiple abductions.

## Intelligence Brief
A series of violent armed attacks have occurred in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, specifically targeting Orthodox Christians. According to reporting from the BBC, these attacks have resulted in the deaths of more than 60 Orthodox Christians. Other coverage provided by NDTV specifies that over 40 individuals were killed during these armed assaults on Orthodox churches. Reports from Addis Standard further detail that at least 48 civilians were killed during weekend attacks in the Oromia region, noting that these incidents have occurred once again in the area. The coverage emphasizes the scale and the specific targets of the violence.

The BBC, NDTV, and Addis Standard are among the primary outlets reporting on the death tolls and the geographical focus of the violence in Oromia. Additionally, the Amhara Association of America cited BBC Amharic reporting which indicates that attacks carried out in two specific districts of the Oromia Region left six people killed and five others abducted. This particular report highlights the combined threat of both lethal violence and kidnappings within the regional districts. Context for these events is provided by a public appeal published by Borkena, which calls for an end to the killings of Christians in Ethiopia. The appeal is directed toward a variety of high-profile figures and entities, including various Christian leaders as well as international political figures, specifically naming Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

This request for intervention suggests that the violence is viewed as part of a larger pattern of religious-based killings that requires the attention of global leadership and religious authorities to resolve. Future developments to monitor involve the response to the appeals made to international leaders and the continued security situation in Oromia's districts. Based on the provided coverage, the situation remains volatile, with reports of abduction and repeated weekend attacks. Observers will likely look for official government responses or updates regarding the five individuals reported abducted in the two districts mentioned by BBC Amharic, as well as any changes in the security posture around Orthodox churches in the region.
