> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-10-26 17:00 UTC · Category: Entertainment

## Executive Summary
Keanu Reeves steps into Netflix’s ‘Maelstrom’ after Alan Ritchson exits, turning the upcoming action thriller into a high‑profile ‘Die Hard’‑style venture.

## Intelligence Brief
Coverage from Deadline, MovieWeb, IMDb, Yahoo, Collider and The Playlist all corroborate the replacement. Deadline and MovieWeb explicitly describe the movie as a “Die Hard”-esque thriller, while Yahoo adds that director Jaume Collet‑Serra is attached to helm the picture. Collider notes Ritchson’s prior involvement, referencing his work on “Reacher,” and The Playlist frames the development as Netflix officially enlisting Reeves following Ritchson’s exit.

The development sits within Netflix’s broader strategy of expanding its high‑budget action slate, and the “Die Hard”‑style label signals a classic, high‑octane premise. Jaume Collet‑Serra’s direction suggests continuity with his known work in the genre, although the headlines do not detail his filmography. Reeves’ casting aligns with his established reputation for leading action franchises, potentially raising the profile of the project compared with the earlier attachment of Ritchson.

Future reporting is expected to clarify production schedules, additional casting, and a release window, as current coverage focuses solely on the lead‑casting shift. Statements from Netflix or further comments from Collet‑Serra could provide more detail. Watching for updates from the same outlets—Deadline, Collider, Yahoo and others—will likely reveal the next set of confirmed facts about “Maelstrom.”
