## Executive Summary
Fossil hunters in Wyoming have uncovered a barrel-shaped, squid-like creature dating back 160 million years.

## Intelligence Brief
According to coverage from Nature World News, Around Prague, UA.NEWS, and Yahoo, scientists and fossil hunters in Wyoming have identified a new species described as an unusually chunky, barrel-shaped belemnite. The creature dates back to the Jurassic period, specifically approximately 160 million years ago. While some fossil hunters colloquially referred to the specimens as squid butts due to their distinctive shape, formal scientific descriptions characterize them as a newly recognized belemnite species. Coverage across the outlets consistently emphasizes the unusual morphology of the newly described fossils.

Reports from Nature World News and Yahoo highlight descriptors such as barrel-shaped and one of the chunkiest specimens encountered from that era. UA.NEWS and Around Prague detail the geographic origin of the discovery, pointing specifically to fossil deposits in Wyoming where the 160-million-year-old remains were recovered and analyzed by researchers. This scientific discovery adds to the broader understanding of Jurassic marine life, specifically the diverse group of cephalopods known as belemnites that populated ancient oceans millions of years ago. While belemnites are generally related to modern squids and cuttlefish, the newly identified fossils stand out due to their exceptionally stocky and barrel-like proportions, providing paleontologists with new morphological data from the Jurassic period.

As the scientific community processes the description of this new species, future coverage does not yet specify whether additional specimens will be sought in Wyoming or what further taxonomic analysis will be conducted. Observers and science enthusiasts can monitor upcoming paleontological journals for further details regarding the classification and anatomy of these chunky Jurassic belemnites.
